The Tale of the Transfer

How do you go about transfering the last couple year's worth of recording, sequencing, and editing data from a machine that has neither usb, firewire, nor a CD or DVD burner? Answer: Very slowly.

So I've finally ditched my old workhorse of a digital audio sequencer, Studio Vision Pro. I held out as long as I could, but my old PowerMac 8600 was really starting to show it's age (uh... see above) so it was time to upgrade. Now I've got MOTU's Digital Performer running on a beefed up mac mini - which seems to be quite rocking so far. Only now I have the arduous task of translating all my old SVP material into something DP can read.

In regards to your post on 11/28. I don’t understand why someone with as nice a site as yours could ask such a dumb question: How do you transfer data from a computer with no cd/dvd burner or usb/firewire ports? Have you thought of just installing a burner/usb 1.1/firewire… I’m sure that computer of yours has PCI Card slots! Either way, it will definately take a dvd burner!!! You guys are idiots for using parallel ports! IDIOTS!

Ah… um, well thanks for the input, Zmoney. Perhaps you couldn’t tell… but the question was of the rhetorical/sarcastic nature. The point was to not dump any more money into a machine I wasn’t going to be using anymore. As far as us being idiots… that usually goes without saying!
