The Tale of the Transfer

How do you go about transfering the last couple year's worth of recording, sequencing, and editing data from a machine that has neither usb, firewire, nor a CD or DVD burner? Answer: Very slowly.

So I've finally ditched my old workhorse of a digital audio sequencer, Studio Vision Pro. I held out as long as I could, but my old PowerMac 8600 was really starting to show it's age (uh... see above) so it was time to upgrade. Now I've got MOTU's Digital Performer running on a beefed up mac mini - which seems to be quite rocking so far. Only now I have the arduous task of translating all my old SVP material into something DP can read.

Rigors of Summer Begin to Thaw
Ah… the signs of life. A cough and sputter of renewed life… and the faintest pulse of new blood coursing through the veins of our little entity of MI.

We had a band meeting a week or so ago – the first in quite a while (our summers being otherwise endeavored ) – and talked about our immediate future… And about getting back on track with all this new material.

And here we are. Back on track. Drums have been demoed on roughly half of the new stuff, and the second round of guitar demos is in the works. The new system is up and running in the new studio… quite smoothly now after a few days worth of exporting, copying, translating, importing – getting all the old files off the old computer(s) and on to the new machine. The last batch of songs has now been click-ified and readied for more drum demoing.

So maybe… just maybe you’ll see a bit more progress here. I at least hope to see it.
